Benefiting from the creation of new photovoltaic materials and innovations in device architectures, organic (OPV) cells are booming. Nonetheless, their prosperity is also accompanied by challenges, such as tedious synthetic routes, increasing costs insufficient operational stability under practical stresses. Polythiophene, with a simple chemical structure, high scalability excellent charge transport ability, expected to be most promising candidate among all kinds polymer donors. Ternary mixing, effective method for improving efficiency OPVs, has attracted significant attention recent decades. This review provides an overview advances ternary OPVs based on polythiophene discusses role various third components three types OPV active layers, where serves either host material or additive, clarifies how component plays determining morphology performance, finally proposes future research directions featuring polythiophene. In short, this insights into polythiophene-based multicomponent systems helps readers better understand relationships between morphology, stability.
